POO GOO & SLIPPERY EELS: Episode 5
Posted by Peaches on 2003-06-29
Having won the Fast Forward in Episode 4, Tian & Jaree are the first to start the race in Episode 5. They leave the pit stop at 2:26am. They must get to Amsterdam by air using the airport in Marseilles. To get to the airport they must drive. It seems the Fast Forward was of questionable value since the second place teams, Jon & Al and Millie & Chuck left the pit stop at 2:41 am, followed closely by Monica and Sheree at 2:45 am, Reichen & Chip at 2:54 am, Dave & Jeff at 2:57 am, and Kelly & Jon at 3:00 am.

Tian & Jaree start the day fighting, while the clowns get right into the race. When the models arrive at the airport, they find the terminals are closed and decide to camp out first in line at the Air France terminal which opens at 5:00 am. As the other teams arrive, they line up behind the models. Reichen and Chip find themselves at the end of the line and decide to ask the models to purchase tickets for them. Tian and Jaree say they will think about it. Millie gets wind of this and confronts the models who are noncommittal. Millie is angry but the clowns and Millie & Chuck decide to leave Air France and go to British Airways. The models finally elect not to help Reichen & Chip, after putting them off about any decision until the terminal opened. Reichen & Chip shrugged it off and headed for British Airways.

The first flight out of Marseilles, Air France, took the models and Kelly & Jon. The second flight out, leaving from British Airway Terminal carried Monica & Sheree, Millie & Chuck, Jon & Al, and Reichen & Chip. Dave and Jeff left the pit stop before Kelly & Jon but din't arrive at the airport until both airline flights were sold out.

Meanwhile Steve & Dave left the pit stop at 4:10 am. They don’t seem to be concerned by their late start after having escaped elimination two weeks in a row merely on the misfortune or stupidity of other players. Steve & Dave and David & Jeff end up on a third plane which takes them on a more circuitous route that requires a taxi trip from one plane to another to make a connecting flight out of Charles de Gaulle airport.

In Amsterdam, the first two planes arrive within minutes of each other. They now must find their way to Magere Brug, a famous bridge on the Amstel River to find the next route marker. Most of the teams hop a train, but Millie & Chuck opt for a taxi which will get them there quicker. Tian & Jaree spend too much time asking for directions and miss the first train. They board gthe next train.

Millie and Chuck find the bridge first, grab the route marker, get into a boat, and try to figure out where they are going. They must make their way through the canals to the Scheepvaart Museum using the map provided to them. Chuck is confused. Millie is screaming at him to get moving. The rest of the teams catch up with them, get into their boats and head out. Millie pleads with Chuck to go stating she knows where they are. They head out in their boat without knowing for sure where they should go. They figure they can read the map on the way. Kelly & Jon and Reichen & Chuck follow them. Kelly again starts poking fun and calling names, jeering Moley Moley Moley at Millie and saying Chuck looks like a second-stage werewolf the way he moves his cheeks. It’s really hard to find redeeming qualities big enough to overcome Kelly’s spitefulness.

Kelly & Jon and Reichen & Chip soon figure out that Millie & Chuck don’t know where they are going and they turn around and head the other way. Meanwhile, the clowns have already found the next route marker to the detour. They have the choice to drive 30 miles and carry 500 Kilograms of cheese across a brick path wearing wooden clogs; or to drive 12 miles and search through a 15-foot-high pile of cow manure for the next clue. The clowns elect the pile of poop for the fast shoot.

Once there, the clowns don a protective suit and gloves and tiptoe into the poo goo. The first path in is very messy, so they walk back a few feet and go into the pile from another angle. Once they climb halfway up the mountain of poo, they start throwing cow dung at each other – might as well have a little fun. These guys are endearing.

Meanwhile, back on the canal, Tian and Jaree are having a melt-down over who should be able to read the map and who should be the boss. And Monica & Sheree are a bit more civil trying to get directions through the canals.

Reichen & Chip, now at the detour, decide that they cannot touch cow poo, so they head 30 miles down the road to carry cheese. While they are clicking along in their wooden clogs trying to work together carrying a wooden stretcher full of cheese, Millie & Chuck succumb to being lost in canal zone, and go for the Fast Forward. They are to be bound to windmill blades and must be spun around on the windmill for 10 rotations. Chuck remarked that to be by yourself so far above the ground and away from Millie was a good thing at just that moment in time. It was the pause that refreshed as far as he was concerned. From my viewpoint as a bystander I thought that was an awesome ride. Check me into that park would you? I wonder if people can go over there and request that ride for entertainment. They finished the task and checked in first at the pit stop, Kasteel Muiderslot, in Muiden. Millie & Chuck won a 7 day Mexican Rivera cruise vacation on Royal Caribbean's "Vision of Sea."

As Millie & Chuck are thanking God for getting them to the pit stop first, all the other teams, except Steve & Dave, elect to find route markers in cow dung. Kelly & Jon enter the detour just as the clowns finish the chore. Both gag and choke as they laugh about the revolting task. When Tian & Jaree arrive, Jaree wonders aloud if she can throw some of the cow poo on her teammate. Her question quickly took back seat as Jaree luckily finds a route marker envelope at the bottom of the pile.

Steve & Dave can’t believe any of the teams will actually walk into a pile of cow dung to find route markers so they elect the slow detour of carrying cheese while wearing wooden clogs. Dave & Jeff go for detour manure at about the same time. It’s a little unclear to me why Steve & Dave were so persnickity at that time after they had missed both the first plane out of Marseilles and their connecting flight. OH WELL!

The clowns, meanwhile are reading their clue for the Roadblock task. The person who elects to do the Roadblock must pick up 25 eels with their bare hands and put them into a designated container. Al offers to complete this task because the clue said someone should have a firm grip and like seafood. Ha ha ha!. But he finishes the task in good time, yelling “ouch” only a few times.

After the detour, Monica & Sheree make a dumb decision to drive into obviously muddy ground to make a U-turn, and, of course, get nowhere except 8 inches deep in mud. They are lucky though, and some nice man with the equipment to pull them out of the mud, drives along to help them out so that they don’t lose their safe place at the pit stop. I couldn’t help wonder if this was CBS prompted luck, but anyway, they were overtly grateful for the assistance and headed on to the Roadblock.

Jon catches the eels while Kelly cheers him on. He states the eel feels like a slippery penis. Reichen & Chip arrive at the Roadblock at the same time as Monica & Sheree and both complete the Roadblock. After they complete the Roadblock Monica & Sheree ask if they can follow R&C. Reichen states the Supremes are the only team they trust.

Tian, once again, agrees to do the Roadblock, but she is livid that Jaree has not completed any of the Roadblocks. They fight all the way to the pit stop and expect to be eliminated. But they make it there minutes before Steve & Dave.
