HO HUM! It's David & Jeff Again: The Amazing Race 4, Episode 12

How exciting can analytical be? Answer: As exciting as David & Jeff. Please don't get me wrong, I don't dislike David & Jeff, but they are coming to the final round with a possible win and we still don't know anything about them except that they are pals, are analytical and unemotional, and want to win one million dollars. Yawn! Also it isn't that I'm against the average American winning one million dollars. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I actually become disturbed when I learn that a realty TV show is being casted with actors and models But I am not sitting on the edge of my seat screaming for David & Jeff to win and the only reason I can come up with is that I don't have any emotional ties to them yet. I don't know them and they have done absolutely nothing to endear themselves to the viewing audience. They aren't even entertaining to watch.
So.....as Episode 12 began from the last Pit Stop, Mooloolaba Yacht Club located on the Sunshine Coast of Australia, David & Jeff were first to take off. The time was 10:41 pm. As they drove they explained that they were analytical. They were not emotional like Reichen & Chip so they could stay calmer and reason things out without making mistakes.
Reichen & Chip left next while telling us they would catch up with David & Jeff. They also stated that they knew they both wanted to be in complete control; they wanted to prove to their partner that they knew what was going on and to be able to say "I got us there". They admitted that this overbearing need could hurt them.
Kelly & Jon were last to leave at 10:59 pm. They explained to us that the male teams would be worried about each other and that this would help them to slide through. Kelly also explained that they had saved a lot of money along the way and she hoped that this would help them. Each team received one dollar for this leg of the race. Kelly saw Reichen & Chip getting into their car and yelled "Good Morning Chipper"! She said she loved to push their buttons and get them all riled up.
All three teams arrived at the Woolshed within minutes of each other only to find that the gate did not open until 6:00 am. They all stayed in their car for the night. Sleep arrangements are really gruesome on the Amazing Race, but the contestants at least are working for a prize. The cameramen, however, have my sympathy during what must have been a very long night.
All the teams raced through the gate as soon as it was opened heading for the compartments that were piled about four feet high with newly sheared wool. Kelly wanted gloves, but Jon told her to just start digging. They exclaimed that the wool was warm and sticky and smelled like "ass". Jon was the first to find the clue and he and Kelly read it quickly and ran back to their car. The clue told them to go to Cairns, a city 1000 miles away, and then take a car to WildWorld Tropical Zoo to find their next Route Marker.
The males teams groaned as they watched Kelly & Jon leave, and both teams had to start researching their piles of wool for the hidden envelope. Reichen & Chip found the clue next and scurried to their car. David & Jeff found their clue soon after and ran to catch up saying that they were right behind Reichen & Chip.
Kelly & Jon argued during the entire drive to the airport about directions, and arrived at the airport at 6:55 am. They quickly booked a 7:45 am flight after making sure that it was the earliest flight to Cairns. As usual, though, the other two teams caught up to them and purchased tickets so that all three teams were on the same flight together.
When they deplaned in Cairns, they all participated in a footrace to their cars. Kelly & Jon climbed into their car first and Kelly whined that the guys scared her. David said they had to get more aggressive and the two teams both drove out in front of Reichen & Chip. Chip became a typical roadrage personality and swore because the two teams and another vehicle were blocking the road and they were unable to pass.
At the park, Kelly & Jon got to the clue first and read that they must follow the path to the crock pen. One member must feed the crockodile while the other team member took a picture of the event. They then had to rush to a Souvenir Shop and get their picture printed. Kelly & Jon were so intent on getting to the crock pen that they completely missed the table holding the digital cameras. The male teams were delighted to watch this mistake, and, of course, didn't tell Kelly or Jon about their error. When Jon took the pole with the dangling fish and started out to the crock pond, Kelly realized they did not have the camera and that they were now forced to give up first opportunity to feed the crockodile, and they headed back down the path to find the camera. While they were attending to this oversight, and arguing the whole way, David & Jeff performed the task. Reichen & Chip also fed the crocodile and both male teams ran back to find a souviner shop. Kelly & Jon finally took their turn and also ran back to print out their picture.
In the souviner shop, David & Jeff quickly printed their picture and received their next clue. Reichen & Chip had difficulty learning how to download the camera, and this lack of knowledge helped Kelly & Jon to swoop in, print out their picture, receive their clue, and leave before Reichen & Chip. The clue told them to drive 15 miles to Wangetti Beach for their next Route Marker. On the way to Wangetti Beach, Kelly apologized to Jon for passing up the camera, but they continued to argue about directions. Jon refused to turn when Kelly told him to turn and they passed up the Beach. When they finally made their way back to the beach, David & Jeff and Reichen & Chip were already deep into the next challenge, the detour.
The detour included two choices. Saddle was a choice of riding on horseback for one and one-half miles up and down the beach looking for a cluster of clues that would give them their next set of directions. This choice was more difficult because there were many clusters of clues and most of them were dead-end clues that told them to try again. Paddle was the second choice of paddling a conoe out to find a clue. The clue was easy to find but the trip was exhausting. All three teams elected the Saddle.
Reichen & Chip headed a different direction down the beach than did David & Jeff and found nothing but false clue clusters. David & Jeff rode down the longer portion of the beach and found the correct cluster set first and headed out for their next challenge. Reichen & Chip saw that David & Jeff were successful and headed down that path. Kelly & Jon arrived in time to see that Reichen & Chip had taken the wrong direction at first and were now following the successful path that had been taken by David & Jeff. They wisely followed Reichen & Chip. Reichen & Chip weren't really happy about being followed by Kelly & Jon, but pushed on and found the clue. When they got back to the car, Chip was in such a hurry to get the car out on the road again that he ran over Reichen's foot. His first reaction was anger, but later he apologized.
Kelly & Jon also found their clue and were out on the road soon after. They were all now headed to the next route marker which was the Road Block. This challenge called for one team member to drive the race course in one of their racing buggies. A racing instructor would be with them. Jeff gunned the accelerator and the car's wheels actually left the earth. Chip was victom of a damaged car that wouldn't turn and he hit a stump. They brought another car for Chip to drive. Kelly and Jon had a short stand-off about who would do the race. Kelly insisted it was her turn, but Jon adamently refused to let her drive the race. This adventure was a dream of Jon's and he was not about to let the opportunity pass him. He danced a jig when Kelly musingly gave in. She knew how much the experience meant to him and said she was glad he could get it out of his system now before they wer married. Jon was a fool though. He drove so wildly that he flipped the car over going into a turn. The crew ran to them. Kelly screamed and ran to him. And Jon crawled out of the buggy laughing hysterically. The crew pushed the car upright again and Jon completed the race course as Kelly yelled after him to be careful.
After completing the race course, each team received their clue to the Pit Stop. They had to drive 50 miles to Ellis Beach in a town called Gelatin. The teams could not find the town on the map, and stopped many times to ask the locals where it was. It was pronounced Jul'etin, Gela'tin, Gel'aton among others. Somehow they did finally find the right Beach.
David and Jeff were first to arrive and won another vacation. This trip is for a European Vacation via American Airlines.
Reichen & Chip arrived about 20 minutes later, if they were judging their time correctly.
Kelly & Jon were last to arrive, but were told this leg was a predetermined non-elimination leg and that they were still in the race. What a surprise!
Kelly made the comment that they could not have children because they would not want them to inherit their stupidity. Despite their constant bickering and Jon's childishness, the couple does seem to care about each other.
All teams rest and prepare for the final adventure to win the million dollars.
