On the follow-up show, Matthew said that he did not understand how Meredith could have deceived him so. He felt betrayed because Meredith has basically told him that he was the one. Matthew was pretty distraught and described himself as “lost.” Matthew confronted Meredith, and asked, “How could you have told me ‘I want a ring, and I want it from you’ at your parent’s house and then accept a ring from Ian a couple of days later?” Meredith just said, “I just wanted to see where your head was at.” Then, Meredith admitted that she knew that she was going to pick Ian even before her final date with Matthew, which made Matthew feel even worse. But in the end, Meredith said that she was sorry, everyone forgave everyone, and Meredith and Ian are a happy couple. A fitting ending.

In the season finale of the Bachelorette 2, Meredith chose the bad boy, Ian, over the good looking nice guy, Matthew. Meredith had a tearful evening of indecision as she tried to decide who to give the finale rose to. She ultimately chose Ian because she had fallen in love with him. When Meredith picked Ian, Ian gave her the ring the he had picked out for her. Meredith promised him that their relationship would last. Now, Meredith and Ian are engaged.
