Kent Blackwelder is a 46-year-old married father of two, Alexandra, 11, and Madison, 6. His wife is named Kathy. Kent works as a broker at Ridge Mortgage in Powell, Tennesee, his hometown.

Kent's wife said that he applied to be on the show because one of his daughters dared him to do it. And, according to CBS spokeswoman, Kristin Withers, Kent was chosen because the producers were "looking for someone who is not intimidated and speaks his mind easily."

In an interview with the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Kent's wife, Kathy, says, "He is not shy. He has his opinions, and he is not shy about sharing them."

Kathy also reports that Kent has never been away from his family for more than a few weeks, so if he has to stay the distance, he may get very home sick.
