'One "Pretty Boy Jock Ass Idiot" Falls Victim To His Own Plan!'
Posted by Grimme on 2003-10-10

Not until Episode 4, or 12 days in “Survivor Time”, did the Drake tribe finally get to see what Tribal Council looks like. That is all except for Rupert who got “rewarded” to the Morgan tribe for a week.

Jon was “stoked” about Tribal Council, prompting Jeff Probst to ask “Are you loaded?” No one in the viewing audience needed Jon’s “astrological signs” to tell them Jon was drunk and “funky like a monkey”.

For the first time, the deep divisions within Drake were fully revealed. The suspicion that Shawn, Burton and Michelle had allied was confirmed by comments from the other Drakes. Trish said these three had alienated the rest of the tribe. Christa said she didn’t feel comfortable around this trio of buddies.

Sandra complained about Burton and Shawn claiming that they got up early and did all the work. Jon griped directly to Shawn about “needing some help here” on camp chores. Rupert, “the skirted man”, remained the continuing butt of jokes on his clothes by these “pretty boy jock ass idiots” (Burton and Shawn).

Jon seems pivotal in three alliances that he knows about: one with Shawn alone……..another with Shawn, Burton and Michelle……and a third with Rupert, Christa, Trish and Sandra.

Burton approached Rupert in the dead of night about intentionally throwing an immunity challenge to get rid of potential threats. Rupert was shocked but managed to conceal his anger by seemingly agreeing with Burton.

Burton strongly wanted Christa voted off. Earlier Shawn mentioned his dislike of Christa. Michelle point-blank said that she wanted Christa out. Trouble seemed to be brewing full-blast at Drake.

Meanwhile, the Morgan tribe seemed to go from bad to worse if that were possible. Higher tides due to storms at sea threatened to wash away their beachside home and they labored to build the seawall higher and stronger.

Ryan, AKA “Rhino”, and Andrew went to their island’s other side to see if the fishing was better there since Andrew commented that they “desperately need fish” and promptly got lost in a “definitely Blair Witch Project”.

Darrah and Tijuana were hard-pressed to do the evicted Lillian’s camp chores including getting water. Why didn’t the men go get the water? The Morgan men make some very questionable decisions and this might eventually lead to a Morgan women revolt if they aren’t careful.

Another one of those questionable decisions was at the Reward Challenge, which Morgan lost for the third time (Would have been four, I think, expect Episode 1 didn’t have a Reward Challenge….) when they sent a “water-challenged” Osten into the ocean, and kept Andrew on the beach (twice) instead of a more sensible “vice versa”. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Ryan and Andrew had to swim out and rescue an apparently drowning Osten.

Drake won and collected the third and final section of their island’s treasure map, a sewing machine with lots of clothing material and sent Trish over to loot Morgan’s lantern.

Rupert showed off another of his many talents……the man can sew, impressing an already admiring Christa but drawing yet more jibes from Burton and Shawn. The tribe located and dug up their treasure chest which had a hammock, mosquito net, blankets (which being wet caused what Sandra called “a stench so awful, it smelled like death.”) sugar, honey, candles and holders, coffee beans, goblets, beef jerky and chocolate among other goodies. Jon wasn’t overly impressed calling it a “ghetto Christmas”.

Due to a self-imposed rotation system, Drake sat out two of its strongest members, Rupert and Burton, and speedily lost a very physical Immunity Challenge of shoving your opponents into the sea to Morgan, who won for the first time ever. There were lots of coy, knowing looks between Jon and Burton which gave the impression Drake was losing on purpose, per Burton’s “throwing the challenge” suggestion to Rupert, but this may also just be Mark Burnett’s infamous editing misdirection.

Part of this episode’s Immunity Challenge winning was for Morgan to pick a Drake castaway to live with them for the next three days and who also could not be voted off at that night’s Drake Tribal Council. Morgan unhesitatingly chose Rupert and from next week’s previews, it looks like Rupert’s fishing feeds the hungry Morgan tribe and maybe wins Rupert some future goodwill if he makes it to the merge.

Meanwhile Jon floated between the two opposing alliances where it became apparent that it would be either Burton or Christa who was going home. Christa worried that it would be her since one of her allies, the absent Rupert, would not be there to cast a vote.

Jon got drunk and went skinny dipping, bringing male nudity to Drake which was “behind” Morgan in this area of endeavor. His drunkenness continued at the Tribal Council which saw Burton voted out over Christa in a 5-2 surprise vote. According to next week’s previews, Shawn voted to evict Burton which is a big surprise. Only Michelle joined Burton in voting against Christa.

Some straws in the wind to keep an eye on….Rupert’s visit to Morgan is already making some of his Drake alliance partners nervous with what he might unintentionally reveal…….Will Rupert’s fishing for Morgan enhance their strength in the competitions……Will Michelle be angry at Jon, and especially Shawn, for not supporting her in voting Christa out and getting rid of Burton……Trish took a very long time to recover her “buried in the sand” puzzle piece in the Reward Challenge---will that affect her position in the tribe……Will Darrah and Tijuana bond, and revolt, against the men making them do all the chores at Morgan…Stay tuned and let’s see!
