Its High School All Over Again On Survivor Island
Posted by scrtprncs on 2003-04-25 |
After all of these weeks we finally discover Jenna has a heart after all!
After last episodes vote taking our Deena the “power 4” thought they had this game in the bag. They lay around lazily, sunbathing, eating, and as Jenna and Heidi said “Planning their wardrobe for the next challenge”; while Butch, Christy, and Matt slaved away. As Alex said, this truly was high school all over again. The popular kids sat around and didn’t do much, while the “untouchables” i.e. Butch the Dork, Christy the Social Outcast, and Matthew the Basket Case/Psycho toil away to provide for them. With these cast of characters we could have a remake of the Breakfast Club, but would Heidi or Jenna play the princess? The “breakfast” theme even spilled over into this weeks reward challenge which was the annual bid for food. Bids went as usual in 20 dollar increments, auctioning off such treats as burgers, steaks, protein bars and shakes, lasagna, and the occasional “Bust” as Alex found out when he bid 260 dollars on camp ‘gruel’. The wrench in this seemingly smooth bidding frenzy was when letters from home were put up for auction. Christy, who at that point had eaten nothing, yet spends close to her whole lot for her letter. This sends Jenna into hysterical sobbing because she is waiting to hear from her mom who is battling cancer. Jeff decides to put a second letter up for auction and everyone lets Jenna win. With that the auction ends and the only Rob goes away empty, as Christy though empty in the stomach is full in the heart.
The power 4 proceeds to discuss how selfish Christy is for outbidding Jenna the first go around. This only proved how shallow these people are. Why should Christy be to blame for wanting to hear from her family? Last nights episode showed me how much of a social outcast Christy has become. She must be so lonely! Every time she spoke to the camera, she was holding back tears or getting choked up. I can only imagine how completely frustrating this is for her. It only strengthens my hope that she wins this thing!
The power 4 decides it will be Matt that gets voted out at tribal council, and I have no doubt had Matt won immunity I bet they would have taken Christy out. Alex with his cocky arrogance takes “control” of the power 4 and informs Rob that once it gets down to them he will be the first voted off. I believe it was back when the girls stripped for PB and Chocolate that I said every male on this show has the same “Heidi/Jenna Sandwich” fantasy. Alex just proved my point.
The Immunity Challenge is a test on how well each tribe mates know the other. The producers have compiled a “slam book” (Geez I sense ANOTHER high school flashback) on who is the prettiest, nicest, craziest, smelliest etc. The survivors have to answer questions on what the majority answer would be.
Jenna gets insulted because she is voted most likely to use her sex appeal to get what she wants. Personally, she has absolutely NO reason to get mad. She said it herself back in episode two or three as her and Heidi were bathing. Jenna is also labeled the least likely to be able to Survive in the wilderness alone. Rob ends up winning the challenge with the most correct answers. However, I find it a bit odd that Matthew threw the last question and answered himself. Why would he put so much trust in Rob? I would have won immunity regardless, even if he had Rob’s iron clad word that he would be voting off Alex.
The tribe goes to tribal council where a very surprised Alex is voted off Survivor Island with a vote of 4 to 3. It should be an interesting next episode to see how the repercussions of Robs “treachery” plays out.
All these actions reeking of High School hierarchy have caused me some wicked flashbacks. I’m sure I will be able to find a good therapist in this city!
Until next week, the princess has spoken.
