Butrons Band Betrays:Gives Burton the Boot
This weeks episode was interesting, for lack of a better word. Morgan continued to suffer, having little to eat and low morale coming off the vote for ‘Lil. The stress of the game was also taking its toll on the Drake tribe as they were suddenly finding it harder and harder to get along. Especially Christa and Burton as well as Jon and just about the entire tribe.
This weeks reward challenge was for a sewing machine and another piece of the map. The challenge was relatively simple, finding pieces of a puzzle within the water or buried in the sand. Retrieve all fifteen pieces and assemble them together. Drake as always took an early lead and held strong to it. Morgan tribe began well, but because to lose steam when an exhausted Osten found himself unable to carry himself against the waves of the ocean, and began calling for help that he was in trouble. Andrew and Ryan O went out to save him, thus giving the Drake tribe a considerable lead. Morgan rallied however, and put up an incredible fight. At one point even pulling ahead of Morgan as Trish struggled to free a piece from the sand. In the end, Drake won the reward and a piece to their map, as well as the opportunity to loot the barren camp of Morgan. Drake set out almost immediately on a search for their treasure chest. To their disappointment, the chest was not things that they had hoped for food and candy, but rather necessities. In their chest contained: silverware, a hammock, blankets, sugar, honey canned food, what was described as “something moldy”, as well as other survival items. Not what they hoped for, but certainly well worth keeping. They sent Trish this time on the looting expedition ( hmm interesting that yet another woman went this week). Trish was instructed to take their lantern. I am so glad that they didn’t take Morgan’s water pot, as that truly would have been the demise of Morgan. Andrew and Ryan attempted to catch fish as Trish was taking their lantern. Unfortunately, Ryan and Andrew became a tad lost and no fish was found.
Back over at Drake, Christa and Rupert were fixing themselves some clothes, only to be ridiculed by Burton and Shawn. Rupert hit the nail right on the head when he said that Burton Shawn and Michelle are like those “Pretty boy” high school cliques that the average person tried to avoid in high school. After ridiculing Rupert, Burton tries to convince him to join an alliance in throwing their competition and voting off Christa. Rupert keeps his cool in front of Burton but in his confessional, we see his opinion of traitorous activities. He said “If this were a pirate ship he would have already been dead”. Hmmm a bit of foreshadowing by the Survivor Producers.
The immunity challenge consists of a water chess board in which members of opposing teams have to “wrestle” each other for the chosen spots as they make their way across the board. Interestingly, Drake chooses to sit out two of its strongest players: Burton and Rupert. Rupert, as we know, wanted no part of the “throwing the game”plan and opted to sit out instead. The Morgan tribe, working with all its might easily slaughtered the half-assed attempt put forth by the competing members of the Drake tribe. Morgan wins immunity, with a wink over the shoulder from Jon ( yeah that wasn’t too obvious idiot). And, in a surprising ( not really nice job producers) twist, Jeff tells the Morgan tribe that they are allowed to take one member of the Drake tribe with them back to camp. They of course choose Rupert. Smart move.
Now, why the sudden twist? Could it be because the producers knew that Drake was planning on throwing the competition and they decided this would be the best way to create a little drama and suspense knowing that Burton’s biggest rival on the tribe was now gone and unable to sway votes against Burton. Or is it that they knew Drake was throwing the competition and this gave them the opportunity to help out the failing Morgan tribe by bringing over one of its strongest members to help them out for a day.
There are strong and weak points to going over to the Morgan tribe for the day. First it could allow you to garner favor with the other tribe so that when the fast approaching merge gets here, you already have a built in set of five additional friends. On the other hand, if Rupert helps them to win the reward challenge, he could paint a target on his back with the other tribe. If he doesn’t help them win, he is painting a target on his back for the Morgan tribe ( what few will be left by the time of the merge that is). This whole thing smells like a foul set up to help out the poor starving Morgan tribe who obviously could not do it on their own.
Drake goes to tribal council, but not before they wisely get a few drinks in them before they go. Of course, little lightweight Jon boy, gets himself hammered before they go. Smart, real smart. No wonder Jeff hates him. Jon is playing all the angles of the game. He has an alliance with everyone on their team, and has everyone thinking that he will vote with them. Going to tribal council, we were lead to believe that Christa’s neck was on the chopping block. Once there Jeff gave his cheesy little schpiel about the fire and life and blah blah blah, and exchanged fakey pleasantries with everyone. Michelle was sunshine and roses and said that the whole tribe just loved each other like a big old family. Cut to Sandra and Jon, who both look like they are about to lose whatever alcohol is in their stomachs because they are so nauseous on Michelle’s sugary sweetness. The voting begins, and we see the typical. Christa voted for Burton, Burton for Christa, Trish and Sandra for Burton. Michelle, Jon, and Shawn’s votes are surprisingly repressed. In a very shocking first Drake tribal council, Burton is voted off with what we believe is a vote of five to three. But, Oh my! There is dissension in his ranks! If you watched Burtons final comments, and the pictures of each person casting their votes you see that there was in fact FIVE votes for Burton. Jon’s vote was never revealed at tribal council, as his had the very mature writing and smiley faces all over it, that clearly were not shown at the tribal council vote.
So, who was it? Shawn or Michelle? Next weeks previews lead us to believe it was Shawn. However, I have reason to believe it was in fact Michelle. I think that Shawn and Burton were way to close for him to turn around and shove that knife in his back. Michelle, seems like a pleaser and a bit of a willow tree, she goes where the wind blows. We shall see next week.
