The Veto Challenge and the Circle of Friends
Posted by david on 2002-07-12
The big news from the July 11-12 Live Feeds is as follows. First, Big Brother tells the house guests that they are introducing a new aspect to the show: the Veto Challenge. Second, in the wee hours of the morning on July 12, the first strong alliance forms: “The Circle of Friends.”

THE VETO CHALLENGE
Here is how the Veto Challenge will work. On July 12 (which will be on the July 13 TV show), the HGs will compete in their first Veto Challenge. They did not reveal what the challenge would be (possibly a shooting game), but they did reveal the rules (i.e., how the Power of Veto would work). The person who wins the Veto Challenge will have the opportunity to remove one of the two nominated HGs from being voted on for eviction. In other words, the Power of Veto gives a HG the power to override the decision of the head of house. On the down side, the person who wins the Power of Veto will be ineligible for HOH, the following week.

So, if the person who wins the Power of Veto decides to exercise that power and to remove one of the nominated HGs from the eviction vote, then, the HOH will choose to nominate another person to replace the HG who has been removed from nomination. The HOH may NOT nominate the person who exercised the Power of Veto, and the HOH may NOT nominate, again, the person who has just been removed.

THE CIRLCE OF FRIENDS
A new strong alliance has formed in the wee hours of the morning of July 12. Those of you, who have been following the show, know that there have been two alliances formed in the past, and Josh has been in the center of both of these. The first was Josh, Lisa, Amy, Gerry, Eric and Chiara. This alliance was formed with Josh suggested to these six that they had to get rid of Marcellas. The second alliance was formed in the hot tub, a day or two later. Josh announces, “This is the six, guys.” Lisa responds, “I’m cool with that.” In the hot tub are: Eric, Roddy, Lisa, Chiara, Gerry and Josh. Notice that Amy was not in the second group and that Roddy has been added. Well, the third alliance is a continuation of this one, but this time, Gerry has been dropped and Tonya has been added. So, the new alliance is Josh, Eric, Roddy, Lisa, Chiara and Tonya.

Here is how it happened. Eric goes to Lisa’s HOH room and proposes an alliance. Lisa, Chiara and Tonya are present. Eric says this is not really an alliance, but it is more like a “Circle of Friends.” He says, “Lori is cool, but I have the most fun with you three.” Eric tells Lisa, Chiara and Tonya that Josh and Roddy are in his corner, and that the three girls should join in a strong alliance with these three guys. They agree.

Next, all six (Josh, Eric, Roddy, Lisa, Chiara and Tonya) meet out on the patio to discuss their new alliance. The big discussion centers on what to do with Gerry. Gerry has been in both previous alliances. Josh and Eric are adamant that the group should string him along. In other words, they will play like Gerry is part of their new alliance. They feel confident that Gerry will do what he is told. But, Lisa and Chiara sort of want Gerry out, and it takes lot of persuading on the part of Josh and Eric to keep Gerry from being nominated soon.

After that, Lisa confronts Josh. She tells Josh that she overheard Josh’s conversation with Gerry in which Josh revealed that he did not trust Lisa. It seems that Lisa is trying hard to make this alliance work, so she feels the need to clear the air. They seem to clear the air a bit.

As it stands right now, Josh, Eric and Roddy are in a firm three person alliance. When the girls left, Josh and Eric were talking about how it will be the three guys till the end. Lisa seems a bit apprehensive, but she is going with the flow, for now.
