Lies, Lies, Lies

Never in the history of Survivor have I actually hated a player, until now. Jon is slime in its lowest form. I’ve always hated his sneaking conniving ways but the crap he pulled tonight went to far. I had a feeling that the “Great Lie Ever Told” had something to do with Jon, who else would do something so sneaky, underhanded and without conscious. I have never been more disgusted with a televison show than I was tonight. I pray to Mary, Joseph and all the saints, that the “Survivor” rule ( i.e. “Though he played dirty, he outwitted blah blah blah,) by which Vecepia and Brian won in previous Survivors, does not happen this season. Jon deserves to be kicked off the show, immediately!
The episode started with the blowup after tribal council. Sandra called Jon a snake and told everyone that he couldn’t be trusted. It must have been foreshadowing for the rest of the episode. As the arguments got heated, Burton discovered that the fish that Rupert had caught before heading off to tribal council were gone, and accused Sandra and Christa of sabotaging the group. The entire focus fell onto Christa, as Sandra had her argument with Jon as an alibi. Of course, further into the show, we find out that it was actually Sandra that did the sabotaging. What I don’t understand is why. She didn’t even vote with the group. From last weeks episode, we all know she voted for Jon. So, why is she so upset that everyone sent Rupert home. By her not voting with Rupert and Christa, she too sealed his fate.
This weeks reward episode, the location of the “Greatest Lie Ever Told” was of course a visit from a family member. Each Survivor had a thirty second greeting with their family member
( Darrahs boyfriend, Lil’s husband, Burton’s Mother, Christa’s fiancé, Sandra’s husband, Tijuana’s high school sweetheart, and Jon’s stupid friend.) Christa’s reunion with her fiancé was the most heart-wrenching encounter amongst them, as the stress and strain of the previous night was still weighing heavily on her heart. My heart ached for her, as she sobbed uncontrollably into his shoulder. Then came Jon’s friend. As Jon came to greet his buddy, his asked “How’s grandma” to which his friend replied “I’m sorry man, she died. Didn’t you get the letter.”
Before the prick even admitted to the cameras that he was lying I already knew it. Aside from the over-hyped previews tonight’s episode, too many of Jon’s idiocyncracies caused me to deduce his lie. First of all, when saying “It was either going to be my friend ( I forgot his name) or my grandma showing up today. If my grandma wasn’t here it could only be for one reason.” Here is my problem with that statement. IF he really had this “granny” that died, the fact that she died would imply some degree of frailty. Why then would he choose her as his one family visitor? I can’t imagine the journey into the deep islands of the Carribean, one to be a journey of luxury. I’m sure there was a great deal of hiking, and probably a lot of uncomfortable jeep rides. Most likely this would not be the type of journey for some old frail woman to be making. Plus, most would deduce that in order to see your family member there would be some degree of physicality involved. Why on earth then, would choose an old bitty to compete for him. Of course, this all a moot point, as there was no dead granny. How very Ferris Bueller.
Each survivor and their partner were asked questions, and played a “newlywed”- esque game of getting to know you. With each correct answer the Survivors were allowed to force another players partner to walk the plank. Sandra made a bold move right out of the starting gates. Of course Lil, now suddenly aligned at the hip with Burton and Jon feels the need to defend her new bosom buddy and delivers a hit to Sandra’s husband. Her excuse “My God Sandra, the boy just lost his grandma” Oh boo hoo. Then Jon comes next and delivers another blow to Sandra’s husband, with a blow by Burton immediately following. Sandra is out of the competition. One by one, the survivors family members are forced to walk the plank, and of course it comes down to Lil and Jon, with the choice being up to Burton. Bleeding heart Lil tells Burton to give the prize to Jon ( How funny that suddenly she is in such a charitable mood this week, but shunned her one and only true friend last week by not giving him her prize.) Of course Jon wins the prize with his friend. The reward is a day at the camp, just the two of them. The rest of the Survivors are forced to suffer on another desolate island, alone with only a machete and a pack of matches. Unfortunately, Jon’s lie never did surface in this episode, so all the sheep with the wool over their eyes, never did get a chance to peek at the sunlight that is Jon. Too bad, because I think that after the night that they had, they probably wouldn’t have been in a very forgiving mood, thus voting him off, and not ruining the rest of my evening due to my stewing and boiling about this piece of crap still on the island. He told Sandra in the beginning of the episode that he was riding on Ruperts coat tails. I have never seen a bigger pot calling the kettle black. All he’s been doing since he GOT on the island was ride on someone else’s coat tails. His rear must be pretty well sand burned now after all the riding he’s been doing.
On to the immunity challenge, before I dive into a tangent I will not be able to pull myself away from. The immunity challenge tested their thinking power. They were to come up with as many words possible out of the words “Survivor Pearl Islands” I wonder if “Lie” or “Liar” made it on to anyone’s list. Hmm maybe Jon’s! Christa completed the challenge in the fastest time, but a spelling error evicted her from the competition, as with Jon and Tijuana. That left Burton, Sandra, Lil and Darrah. Burton was next to complete it, and after a quick once over by Jeff, Burton was declared the winner. However, after taking a longer look at Burton’s board, Jeff noticed the word Liaison was spelled incorrectly. Thus disqualifying Burton as well. Because the challenge had already been ended, they needed re-do it with new words. This time it was “Outwit, Outplay, Outlast” and it was an all female final three. ( Hopefully another foreshadowing of things to come) Darrah won by 2 words.
Back at camp, Sandra takes Tijuana on a night time stroll that reveals to her exactly Jon and Burton’s plan ( that neither of them intend to take her or Darrah to the finals.) With this bit of information, Tijuana and Darrah decide to vote Burton out. Stupidly Tijuana goes to Jon and tells him that they are voting Burton out, and that he should follow suit or be next on their list. He makes a deal with Tijuana to vote with them if they take Christa out next, they agree. Then the slimy snake heads over to Sandra and Christa and strikes up a deal with them to keep Burton and get rid of Tijuana, swearing on his supposed dead grandmothers grave that he will stick by them and not backstab them.
At tribal council, the fish episode was discussed, and they showed a very disgusted Rupert, who of course could not comment, on the sidelines. Then, Jeff put Jon on what I was hoping would be the hot seat. Asking him about his grandmother, his loyalty to the tribe, and whether or not he would lie to his tribe mates in order to get what he wanted. Now of course all of this could be coincidental, since it could be assumed he was talking about all the promises to the different tribe mates, but the only thing keeping me going in this show is the hopes that Jon is exposed for the piece of crap that he is.
Tijuana is given a grand birthday present one day early, a five footed kick in the tush out the door. Tijuana and Darrah voted for Burton everyone else, voted for her. Dumb dumb woman. Had you just kept your mouth shut and not gone to Jon, you still would have had a majority vote and you’d still be in the game. Next week, they say new alliances will be formed. Hopefully it’s an alliance to get Jon the heck out of dodge. Burton proves what a back stabber he is, by telling Lil that he doesn’t think he’ll be taking her to the final two. He’s such a nice guy!
